Singel 116
Dordrecht
The namesake of the warehouse, Hendrik Breemer, died in Dordrecht on September 16, 1941. At that time he was already the widower of Rozetta Hartog from Strijen and lived at the Singel 229 in Dordrecht, together with his eldest daughter Hester, who was murdered in Sobibor on 9 July 1943. Three other children of his, Kaatje, Eva and Levie Nathan, lived with their own families elsewhere in Dordrecht.
Levie, who was director of the ready-to-wear shop in imitation of his father and lived further down the Singel (number 86A red), was killed on the same day as his sister Hester, July 9, 1943, along with his wife Bertha Cohen and his daughters Rozette and Henriette Louise.
Sister Kaatje, who married Philip Jacob Braadbaart and lived at 213 Voorstraat, was also murdered in Sobibor, also on that day, along with her husband and daughter Rozetta. Another daughter, Betje Son-Braadbaart, died there seven days earlier.
Eva, the fourth child of Hendrik Breemer, was meanwhile married to Ruben Salomon Kleinkramer, and had two sons, Hendrik and Simon. All members of this family, which lived in Dordrecht at Voorstraat 281, died in the same extermination camp, just like the other Breemers, on the same day, on July 9, 1943.
So they probably saw each other one last time on the same train to Poland, on the way to their deaths.
