Johanna Grünewald was the 3rd wife of Daniel van Engel, who died in Goor on September 11, 1909 at the age of 52. Four children were born from this marriage: Julia, who died before the war, Heintje, who died in 1899 at the age of 1, Emma, who survived the war and Isisdor, who died during the war.
Three other half-brothers of Isidor were born from the previous marriages of Daniel van Engel, i.e. Salomon van Engel, Mozes Aron van Engel and Nathan van Engel, who also died during the Holocaust.
Johanna Grünewald was the widow of Daniel van Engel, who died in 1909. The couple had four children, of whom the son Isidor did not survive the war. Daniel van Engel was a butcher. The family lived in the Grotestraat in Goor. Johanna van Engel-Grünewald went into hiding in Holten. She was caught by treason. Isidor van Engel (nickname Ies) was a butcher just like his father. He was engaged. He was arrested during the major raid in Twente on September 10, 1941 and deported to Mauthausen.
