The grandparents of David Israëls (1882) were Mozes Sanders Israëls and Rachel Levie de Vries. They had seven children, i.e. Rebekka (married to Calmer van der Kleij), Kaatje (died in 1849 at age 8), Judith (married to Salomon Isak Cohen), Eltje (married to Salomon Gans) Sander (married to Hanna Gans), Levie (married to Grietje Gans) and again a Kate who was married to Jakob Benninga). Salomon, Hanna and Grietje Gans were children of David Jakob Gans and Jette Salomon van Hessen.
During the Shoah, of these seven children, only Kaatje Benninga-Israels (1854) was murdered together with her son Simon Benninga (1883). Her other brothers and sisters died before the war.
The next generation of Israels were Moses (1877), Jette (1880), David (1882), Rachel (1885), and Sander (1888). Of these, Moses Israëls and his wife Rebekah Cozijn, Jette Israëls, her husband Philip Berlijn and her son Jacob, David Israëls and his wife Bela Rubens were murdered during the Shoah. Only Esther Israëls and Sander Israëls survived the Shoah.
Of the Gans family, Salomon (1840), Grietje (1845) and Hanna (1850) married Eltje Israëls, David Israëls and Sander Israëls respectively. Of their descendants, only David Gans with his wife Rosette Gans and Mozes Gans with his wife Henderina Gans and their two children Ellij Allegonda and Abraham Sally were murdered during the Shoah. Other members of these families either died before the war or after the war.
Bela Rubens' parents Salomon Rubens and Sarah Hirsch had nine children, i.e. Mietje, Alexander, Samuel, Judith, Aaltje, Bela herself, Henriette, Betje and Esther. Mietje died unmarried in Amsterdam at the age of 32 in 1917; Judith and Aaltje died as a child at a young age; Alexander died in Venlo on January 1, 1942; Henriette, like her sister Bela, was murdered in Sobibor. Samuel died after the war in 1947; his wife Sientje van Meer was murdered in Sobibor. Betje (call sign Betsy), was a nurse and unmarried. She survived the Shoah and died in Amsterdam in 1964. Esther, the youngest of the family, emigrated to Palestine in 1949, after her husband Alexander Bernard Abrahams died in 1946; she died in Beth Joles in Haifa at the age of 105.
