Nieuwstad 37
Zutphen
Hester Horn, called Hesje, had an older brother who survived the war. Her parents had a millinery in Nijmegen. On November 12, 1917, the family moved to Bussum, Huizerweg 2, later to Tesselschadestraat 4. Their millinery in Nijmegen was leased. In 1930 the family moved again, now to Zutphen, Nieuwstad 37. There they took over an already established millinery, in which Hester assisted. In April 1942 Hester married Willem Boutelje. She went into hiding with her husband, parents and in-laws on a farm in Warnsveld. When that became too dangerous, a hiding place was provided in Friesland. Hester's parents went there and survived the war. Hester and her husband and in-laws hoped to escape to Switzerland. They stayed in Warnsveld and were betrayed, rounded up and deported shortly afterwards.
Willem Boutelje was a teacher of mathematics and mechanics at the Jewish Lyceum and a teacher of mathematics at the Jewish Lower and Uloschool in Zwolle in the school years 1941/42 and 1942/43.
