Hogestraat 3
Aalten
Jacob ten Bosch was born on March 28, 1904 in Aalten, the son of Izak ten Bosch and Bertha Cohen. He had two sisters, Sara Lena and Helena, the first of whom was at least older than Jacob. Father Izak was a butcher and also a member of the board of the newly established Aaltense Oudheidkamer.
On October 17, 1934, Jacob married Jansje Bouwman, born in Rotterdam on December 19, 1906, daughter of Samuel Izaäk Bouwman and Hester Sanders, sister of David and Izaäk Nathan.
After their marriage, Jacob and Jansje settled in Aalten and opened a butcher shop in Hogestraat 3. On September 19, 1937, they had a daughter, Bertha Hester (Beppie). In 1940 the advertisements of Jewish shopkeepers disappear from the newspapers; the last mention of Jacob ten Bosch is the wish for a good new year 1941… In that year the store must be closed. Jacob and Jansje went into hiding at an address in Halle, but were betrayed and transported to Auschwitz. Jansje was murdered there on November 19, 1943 and Jacob on March 31, 1944; they were 36 and 40 years old at the time. Their daughter Beppie was moved to a different address and survived the war.
