Lodewijk Max Polak, an authorised signatory at the bank Van Embden, lived on the second floor of Hunzestraat 43. He was in the resistance: he helped Jews by safeguarding their property and money, sent food to camp Westerbork and distributed underground papers. He was arrested in Amsterdam on 8 February 1944. Through Westerbork and Bergen-Belsen he came to Buchenwald, where he died on 28 December 1944. Emanuel Jacobs and Judith Marianna Jacobs-Kan are also remembered at this address.
