Marcus Barentz had a chemist's shop at Rapenburg 95. In 1916 he married Sara van Vriesland and they came to live here; their son Elias Victor was born in 1920. They lived here until their arrest in 1942. Elias Victor was murdered in Auschwitz on 3 August 1942, 22 years old. Marcus and Sara were murdered there on 10 September 1942. Marcus's mother Maartje Barentz-de Leeuw lived above the shop.
