Karbouwstraat 35
Bussum
The Jacobsen family from Karbouwstraat has left few personal memories. David Jacobsen, a diamond cutter from Amsterdam, and his wife Anna settled in Bussum after his retirement. They went to live with their son Elias, who already resided there. David was a member of the Andb and stopped his contribution in March 1941, while retaining pensions.
David and Anna got married in 1898 and had three children, one of whom, Helena, died at a young age. Their other children were Elias (1901) and Celine (1905). Celine married Richel van Gelder and left for Africa, where she died in Spain in 1977.
Elias, a merchant, married Beatrix Hinze and had two children. After their divorce in 1942, the children probably went with their mother, who remarried and moved to Drenthe in 1944. Elias survived the war, probably by hiding, and moved to Vlaardingen in 1947, after which he disappeared without a trace.
David and Anna stayed in the Karbouwstraat until they were deported via Westerbork to Sobibor. Their deportation is stated in the Municipal Administration of Bussum with the letters V.O.W.
