Elias Stibbe was the third of the four children of Mozes Stibbe and Sara Stodel. He was born on August 20, 1904 in Amsterdam and he started as a merchant in all kinds of articles and later became a sales representative. His eldest sister Rosalie was only 6 months old and died on January 27, 1900. Elias also had a sister Elisabeth and brother Joseph.
Elias' father Mozes Stibbe left with his wife, Joseph and Elias himself, at the end of February 1923 from Amsterdam to Middelburg and stayed there until May 1931, then moved to Rotterdam and then in June 1934 to 84 Ruyschstraat in Amsterdam. His sister Elisabeth was already married to Jacob Cardozo in 1922 and lived in Antwerp. However, Elias left again on December 14, 1934 to Rotterdam and found a place to stay at the address Lange Warande 116b; his parents and brother Joseph stayed in Amsterdam but still lived there at various other addresses.
Incidentally, Elias left Rotterdam for Groningen, where he was registered at Westersingel 43 on June 4, 1936. On May 19, 1937 he lived in Heerlen, on October 13, 1938 in Utrecht, and on February 13, 1939 he arrived in Eindhoven and lived there in the Vrijstraat 16. On 22 July 1940 he moved there to the Mathildelaan 17 and on 1 July 1941 he was registered at the Stratumschedijk 7a.
Elias Stibbe was arrested by the SD on 13 June 1942 in Eindhoven. The reason for this is unknown. He was transferred from Eindhoven to the Polizeigefängnis in Haaren on 8 July 1942. His registration there under number 263 shows that he was registered not as Jewish but as Roman Catholic when he was brought there at 10 a.m. Early in the morning on 7 October he was sent to Camp Amersfoort, where he was treated for a foot wound in the hospital barracks on 10 October 1942. Information from the former Kamp Amersfoort shows that in October 1942 a transport of 179 prisoners went from Amersfoort to Mauthausen. The exact date is not clear, the date on which Elias Stibbe arrived in Mauthausen is also unknown. However, from the archives of ITS Arolson his death certificate has been found (Todfallsaufnahme) from which it appears that he died in Mauthausen on January 5, 1943.
