Kampen
Stumbling stone for a resistance fighter.
In May 1940 Marinus Post moved into his new farm near Kampen.
From the summer of 1942, Post provided aid to dozens of Jewish countrymen. He convinced them to go into hiding and provided shelter in his home and with farmers on the Kampereiland.
On the night of July 26 to 27, 1943, the farm was raided by the Kampen police led by an NSB chief of police. During a shooting, Post, who was hit in the lower leg, managed to escape. His wife and seventeen-year-old son Jan were arrested and stayed in the concentration camps of Vught, Ravensbrück and Dachau until the liberation. The Jewish people in hiding were discovered in a shelter behind the farm and taken away. The farm burned down five days later.
Post went into hiding in Barendrecht for a while and then mostly stayed in Leiden. From late 1943 to mid-1944 he was active in gangs. First in that of his younger brother Johannes and from January 1944 as head of his own team. He was involved in more than ten robberies at distribution offices and town halls in South Holland, Gelderland and Overijssel. Some of the captured ration cards were made available to the illegal newspaper Trouw.
On October 20, 1944, Post was arrested in Amsterdam. He had been found sleeping with a pistol and a hand grenade by members of the Grüne Polizei in a shed of a house on the Amstel, a few hours after a shootout had taken place in an adjacent building between two members of his gang and an injured German guard. In the four weeks that followed, he was heavily questioned. Despite abuse, he never let go and even managed to keep his false name. Eventually he was put on the list of Todes candidates who were eligible for execution in retaliation.
On November 17, 1944, Post was executed with four others in Alkmaar in reprisal for the assassination attempt on Rottenführer Meijer, who had tried to infiltrate the resistance. On the orders of the occupying forces, their bodies were buried in a mass grave in the dunes near Overveen.
