Harfsense steeg 17
Lochem
Egbert is a member of the LO and LKP organization, department Eefde-Gorssel-Harfsen-Laren. His name is mentioned in 'The Great Commandment' about the history of LO-LKP. Brother Tinus also took part in resistance work, he was the local food supply office manager in Almen, but was betrayed and arrested in August 1944 during a raid by SS men and land guards. He ends up in a camp near Leipzig and survives the war. Father Enserink is in hiding with family in Rekken. Egbert misses his brother very much, but in the meantime continues with his resistance work. On the night of October 13 to 14, 1944, approximately sixty SD members, SS members and land guards came from Deventer to the Zonnenberg farm of the Slagman family in Harfsen. They take Gerrit Slagman and thirteen people in hiding, rob everything and set the farm on fire. Nearby, they throw hand grenades at 'Het Hol' of the resistance, killing resistance fighters Ynze Dikkersloot and girlfriend Tine van Heesch. It makes a deep impression on everyone in the area and certainly also on Egbert, who is quietly crying on the part in Harfsen (as his sister Jo notices).
On November 21, 1944, Egbert was warned that the resistance group LKP Laren-Noord had been betrayed. He wants to tell his wife, but the Gestapo is already in his garden and arrests him. Together with others he goes to the Oxerhof in Deventer and then to the Kruisberg in Doetinchem. On December 21, 1944, Egbert and many others went to Germany in a cattle truck. He ends up in the Arbeitslager Gladbeck in Westphalia. When he is completely exhausted, malnourished and critically ill, he is thrown outside the camp in the middle of winter. He can travel to the Netherlands in a truck and then he will be admitted to the hospital in Winterswijk. His wife Hennie, his brother and father visit him and speak to him. A little later Egbert died on 4.2.1945 in Winterswijk. Brother Johan collects his body by horse and cart, a dangerous journey with all those planes in the sky. The funeral service takes place in the church in Eefde (but his family and people in hiding cannot attend because of the risk of being arrested). A wreath of people in hiding covers Egbert's coffin. He is buried at the cemetery in Almen.
