Julius Obermeier, born August 9, 1885 in Eisbergen (Germany), sworn translator, previously residing at Minderbroederstraat 24 in Venlo, moved to Amsterdam on July 4, 1939. Taken away after occupation in 1940 on the grounds that Obermeier was considered an anti-Nazi publicist. Julius Obermeier is still missing. He was last seen in Dachau concentration camp (deed not found).
His birthplace Eisbergen is now part of Porta Westfalica. He is a graduate of the University of Rennes (Fr.). The book Der Anti-Nazist was indeed written by him and was published in 1931 by Grenz-Verlag Eindhoven. His statements about 'Die Schweinebande, die in Deutschland an der Regierung ist' were fatal to him. He was arrested on May 25, 1940 in Venlo and taken to prison in Kaldenkirchen. In addition, in May 1940 his family became 'ausgebürgert'. Later he was transferred to Mönchengladbach-Spatzenberg. Because of open tuberculosis, Obermeier was transferred to the Justice Prison in Düsseldorf-Derendorf. In March 1942 it was decided to deport him on April 22 to Izbica in southern Poland, about 60 km. south-east of Lublin, which served as a gateway for Jews from half Europe, on their way to the extermination camps Belzec, Treblinka and Sobibor. He became a victim of the 'Aktion Reinhardt', an extermination action of the Nazis, to which several hundred thousand Jews from all over Europe were sacrificed. However, he would not have been in Dachau Concentration Camp.
It is remarkable that Obermeier wrote himself with a 'y', while he appears in the Population Administration with 'eie'. Mrs. Obermeier and her daughter were evacuated at the end of 1944 to Tegelen, Gasthuisstraat 56 with the Hermans family and returned to their house on the Minderbroedersstraat after the liberation. The O. family was Lutheran Evangelical; daughter Ruth even made a confession in Venlo. Nevertheless, there is later talk of the Jew O. In the Gestapo report in 1939 it is still referred to as 'O ist arischer Abstammung', but later it is referred to as 'der Jude O.', based on art. 5 of the Erste Verordnung zum Reichsbürgergesetz of November 14, 1935. That is why also the name Julius has been added 'Israel'. According to an announcement by someone else, the entire Gestapo file was created to judge that O. the Dutch-German border did not come alive in May 1940.
