Walstraat 17
Deventer
After 1933 the Bos family lived in Walstraat 17, above a wholesaler in food. Carel Bos and his wife Eva had four children: Sjakie, Miep, Jos and Ellie, who were all born at this address. Carel and his brothers were active in the trade and built the market stalls on and down on Friday. They sold irregular merchandise and rented stalls in different places, using a cover truck with a small horse.
On November 18, 1942, the Bos family was arrested by the Dutch police, without the supervision of German authorities. After their arrest, mother and children arrived in Westerbork, where they were transported to Auschwitz a week later and gassed on November 27, 1942. Carel Bos arrived in Westerbork on an unknown date and was transported on November 24, 1943, one year after the deportation of his family. His date of death was established on March 31, 1944 in Central Europe, possibly during one of the death marches. The war has hit the Bos family heavily; A total of 21 family members died.
