Brinkstraat 65 Denekamp
At the outbreak of the war, Mauw ten Brink ran the butcher shop at 75 Brink. In 1934 he was married to Else Frank, born in Eving. Her father, Salomon Hertoch Frank, was also a butcher. On June 16, 1935, Mauritz and Else had their first child, Harrij. Their daughter Johanna was born on March 13, 1937. Mauritz's brother Julius, four years his junior, and his wife Hennie had had their first child, a girl whom they named Johanna, eight months earlier, on July 22, 1936. That was probably the reason that the daughter of Mauritz and Else, by distinction, went by the short name Joke. Julius and Hennie's Johanna was called Hannie. At the German invasion in May 1940 Harrij 5, Joke was 3 years old, when they were taken from Denekamp with their parents and grandfather on the night of 17 to 18 November 1942, they were 7 and 5. With their 31-year-old mother Else they died on December 7, 1942 in Auschwitz. Their grandfather Isaac lived in Auschwitz until January 14, 1943, Mauritz until February 28, 1943.
