Barend married Hester Italiaander on May 11, 1892 at the age of 22. He was a laborer, later a merchant, fruit and vegetable dealer. At the age of 71, he moved to Leiderdorp for an unknown reason. After his arrest in 1943, Barend and his wife first ended up in Vught before being deported to Westerbork on May 8, 1943. They were both gassed in Sobibor on May 14, 1943. Barend was 73 years old at the time.

Hester Italiaander was a maid when she married Barend van Hoorn. The couple went to live on the Gedempte Gracht in The Hague, where their nine children were born between 1893 and 1909. Five of them married and left the parental home. Hester and Barend moved to Leiderdorp with their four unmarried children on April 26, 1941, where they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary on May 11, 1942. Hester, together with her husband and daughter Carolina, was arrested in April 1943 and deported to Vught and Westerbork. She was gassed in Sobibor on May 14, 1943. She was 77 years old at the time.

Salomon was a runner and was arrested together with his brothers Simon and Jacob and deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz, where he was gassed on September 30, 1942. He was 42 years old at the time.

Carolina had worked as a packer in a cigarette factory in The Hague on the corner of Wagenstraat and Gedempte Gracht, where the Van Hoorn family lived for many years. Carolina was taken to Vught on April 22, 1943 and from there to Westerbork on September 16. Deportation to Auschwitz followed, where she was killed on September 24, 1943. She was 40 years old at the time.

It is known that Simon was an apprentice molder in probably a metal foundry. At the time he and his brothers Salomon and Jacob were arrested, he was a warehouse clerk. He and his brothers were murdered in Auschwitz on September 30, 1942. He was 35 years old at the time.

Jacob was an errand boy. He was arrested with his brothers Salomon and Simon and deported to Auschwitz, where he was murdered on September 30, 1942. He was 33 years old at the time.
