Stuttgart’s first Stolperschwelle. It will be laid at Dornhaldenfriedhof and will commemorate victims of Nazi military justice who were executed at the former machine-gun shooting range there. The site served as a military shooting ground from 1869 to 1968. According to research by Bertram Maurer of the Stolperstein Initiative Degerloch, 32 death sentences were carried out by shooting on Stuttgart firing ranges between 1941 and 1945, at least 22 of them at Dornhalde. Nazi military courts used executions to discipline the army, punishing theft, desertion, refusal to bear arms and same-sex love.
