At Huizerweg 20 in Blaricum, several Jewish residents became victims of Nazi persecution, each in a different but equally tragic way. The sisters Betje, Eva, and Lea Schorlesheim lived there together. Betje died in 1943, likely from illness, but under the harsh conditions imposed on Jews she is still considered a victim. Eva and Lea went into hiding to escape deportation, but were betrayed, arrested in 1944, and deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz, where they were murdered.
Also connected to this address were Mozes Ferro and his wife Roosje de Groot, who ran a pension. When deportation became inevitable, they saw no way out and, in April 1943, chose to take their own lives together.
