Wilhelm Ferdinand Otto (“Gerth”) Schreiner (1892) was a German writer, journalist, and teacher who lived at Slingerweg 7 (now William Singerweg 11) in Blaricum with his partner Maria Lucretia Blomsma. During the Nazi occupation, both were increasingly persecuted and faced growing restrictions and fear.
In 1940, rather than face deportation and the likely fate that awaited them, Schreiner and Blomsma chose to take their own lives. Their suicides reflect the desperation and lack of escape experienced by many under Nazi rule. Stolpersteine at this address commemorate their lives and tragic decision.
