Anna Friedländer-Spanier, widow of Bernard Heinrich Friedländer, moved from Frankfurt to the Netherlands with her family. Her daughter Gertrud married Fritz Seckel, a German-Jewish lawyer who converted to Protestantism and held public and legal positions until dismissed in 1934 due to his Jewish origins. The family settled in The Hague but had to move inland in 1940 due to Nazi regulations. While the sons Gustaaf and Gerhart escaped to Switzerland, and the parents went into hiding in Leeuwarden, Anna remained in Bilthoven. In 1943, she was deported to Westerbork, where she died on May 13 at age 76. Her ashes were buried in Diemen.
