Isaac Lion Salomonson was born on 27 May 1861 in Almelo, son of Maurits Salomonson and Jeanette Mesritz. He came from a wide family network connected to industry, trade and banking, and worked first as a clerk in Amsterdam. From the 1890s he lived and worked in Java, including in Semarang and Batavia, before returning to the Netherlands in 1903. He later held roles as director, commissioner and financial director in several companies. After living in Amsterdam and Bloemendaal, he moved to Van Hogendorpstraat 21 in Haarlem in 1937. In late August 1942, although apparently not summoned, he reported for the first transport of Haarlem Jews to Westerbork. On 28 August 1942 he was deported to Auschwitz, where he was murdered on 1 September 1942. He was 81 years old.
