The Jewish Os family lived at this address until April 1942, consisting of father Bernard Os, mother Jeanette Os – Horwitz and daughter Caroline Stella Os, who was 2 years old at the time. In April 1942 they were all arrested and probably separated from each other. The father went to Westerbork and mother and child to Vucht. Bernhard was transported to Auschwitz, where he was murdered on February 28, 1943. After more than a year in Vught, Jeanette and Caroline were transferred to Westerbork during the nasty children's transports. The situation in Vucht was dire, the children became sick and exhausted and the Germans had to get rid of them. Caroline's physical condition was poor and she died 2 days after arrival. What sadness, what a disaster for the mother, what those last moments must have been like with your dying child. The loneliness of being there without your loved ones, no help, no comfort, the despair. We simply cannot imagine how you will feel after so much injustice and unreason by those in power. Jeannette didn't get much time to process it. A month later, on 13-7-1942, she was deported to Sobibor. After a harsh train journey, she was probably transported directly to the gas chamber and murdered on July 16, 1943.
