Mozes Reens, born in Amsterdam as the fourth of six children of Jacob Levie Reens and Mietje Halverstad, married Henriëtte Barber in 1922, from the Amsterdam fashion store 'Gezusters Barber'. Together they had two children: Sally Jacques in 1923 and Mary Sophie in 1926. After a short period in Aerdenhout, the family lived in Amsterdam and eventually settled in Haarlem in 1938, where Mozes opened a clothing store. In the autumn of 1942, the family went into hiding due to the threat of the Holocaust, but Mozes and Henriëtte were arrested and sent to the Vught concentration camp, and later to Westerbork and Sobibor, where they were murdered in April 1943. Henriëtte, born as the youngest of two children of Salomon Barber and Sophia Henriëtte Elekan, lived in Amsterdam in her youth and married Mozes. They had two children, whose names were a tribute to their four grandparents. The family first lived in Amsterdam's Rivierenbuurt and later in Haarlem. Henriëtte and her family went into hiding during the Second World War, but were eventually arrested and deported to Sobibor. Sally Jacques Reens, eldest child of Mozes and Henriëtte, was an active athlete and lived with his family and grandmother in Haarlem. He was later sent to Auschwitz, where he died in November 1943. Mary Sophie, youngest child of the family, was also deported to Auschwitz and murdered in August 1943.
