Levie Kaas and his second wife, Sophia Lopes Salzedo, lived in Naarden from March 1934. Levie, a textile trader, had his company Louis Kaas Textile Agencies, which traded in large textile parties and as an agent for an American company that sold 'Brassières'. Levie started his career in the textile with his stepfather, Leo van Raalte, and later settled as an independent merchant in Amsterdam. Levie and his first wife, Regina Cohen, had two sons, Leo and Jules, who both worked in the family business. After Regina's death in 1932, Levie remarried Sophia. By 1940 Levie and Sophie had four grandchildren. The family moved to Amsterdam when the Germans invaded the Netherlands. In the May days of 1940, Jules and his family committed suicide. In January 1942, after the introduction of concentration measures, Levie, Sophie, Leo, and his family moved to Chopinstraat in Amsterdam. Despite attempts to go into hiding, Levie, Sophie, Leo, Bep, her mother, and their housekeeper were arrested and deported. Only Bep Kaaszster and her children survived the war.
