Sientje Wurms (1900, Amsterdam) married fruit trader Marcus Hagenaar (1899, Amsterdam) in 1923. They had three children: Louisa (1924), Philip (1925), and Betty (1938). After moving to Haarlem in 1928, Marcus co-ran the family fruit business M&A Hagenaar. On the night of 2–3 October 1942, the family was arrested in a raid and taken to Westerbork. On 9 October they were deported to Auschwitz: Sientje and her daughters were murdered on arrival, days before her 42nd birthday. Marcus and Philip were forced into labor but both died within months—Marcus in January 1943, Philip in October 1942. Nearly Marcus’s entire extended family perished in the Shoah; only one niece on Sientje’s side survived, along with her child hidden in Overveen. The family’s Stolpersteine were laid in 2025 on Vosmaerstraat, Haarlem.
