Zwarteweg Noordwijk
From the Willem van den Berghstichting, located on the Zwarteweg between Noordwijk and Katwijk, a number of Jewish patients were deported during the war and murdered in Auschwitz. Rebecca left for Auschwitz on 22 January 1943 with the Apeldoornsche Bosch transport. She had Down's syndrome. Samuel is the only child of Samuel van der Kloot and Saartje Prins. Father van der Kloot is a fruit trader. Little is known about the family. Because Samuel is mentally handicapped, he lives at the Willem van den Bergh Foundation. Samuel arrives in Westerbork on April 14, 1943. On April 27, 1943, he left for Sobibor, where he was killed on April 30, 1943. His parents both perished in Auschwitz. Samuel just turned 10 years old. Robert was born on June 24, 1924 in The Hague. Father Louis Zodij and mother Esther Coelho had three sons: Joseph Samuel, Sylvain and Robert Jacques. Esther passed away in 1937. A year later, Louis married Henriette Sanders, Eddy de Wind's mother. During the war, Robert lived at the Willem van den Bergh Foundation in Noordwijk; an institution for the mentally handicapped. We do not know whether Robert was also handicapped or whether he was hiding here. Louis and Henriette died in Auschwitz. Sobibor was the final station for Joseph and Robert. Robert died on April 23, 1943, he was only 18 years old.
