David van Praag, born in Zaandam, was a butcher. In 1908 he married Mietje Oudkerk in Den Helder. During the war he worked for the Jewish Council in the meat supply, which for a time exempted him from deportation. David and Mietje were murdered in Sobibor on 2 July 1943. Their daughter Clara and their son Jacques survived the war.
