Ruyschstraat 78
Amsterdam
Joseph Busnach (Amsterdam, 10 April 1889), son of Isaac Busnach and Sara Tertaas, married Margaretha van West (1891) in 1908. The couple had five children: Isaac (1908), Rebecca (1911), Sara (1913), Louis (1914) and Roza (1916). Joseph and Margaretha lived most recently at Ruyschstraat 78 in Amsterdam, where their unmarried daughter Sara (seamstress at Hollandia Kattenburg) also lived. They were arrested on 11 September 1942 and deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz. On arrival on September 17, 1942, Margaretha (51) and Sara (29) were immediately murdered in the gas chambers. Joseph (53) survived the first selection, received prison number 63829 and may be sent to the Gollesshau labor camp. His death was adopted administratively on January 30, 1943, although exact circumstances remain unknown. Three children (Isaac, Louis, Roza) survived the Holocaust, while Rebecca and her family were also murdered. Josephs camp history remains fragmentary, with hospital admissions in Auschwitz I (block 20/28), but without definitive death details.
