Max Wessel, an office clerk, married Elly Premsela, a daughter of the physician Benedictus Premsela, on 17 December 1941. Elly was a sculptor and had taken lessons at the Nieuwe Kunstschool in Amsterdam. Max wrote the book 'Sport en Psyche', which was published in 1947. The couple went into hiding in Zaandam. They were arrested there in the night of 22 to 23 November 1943, after the man who hid them had been betrayed. Both were murdered in Auschwitz on 11 February 1944.
