Zwolle
With these stumbling blocks we commemorate Koos Lion Keizer and his wife Rosetta Keizer-Polak. They were born in Zwolle and married in Zwolle in 1914. Both died in Auschwitz, Koos on October 22, 1942, 54 years old, Rosetta on October 29, 1942, 59 years old. **
Koos worked as a representative at the Zwolse hardware store of O. de Leeuw. He went out to sell hardware. De Leeuw has offered to help Koos and his wife go into hiding. He had less faith in a good outcome than his employee, who optimistically assumed that he was going to harvest potatoes in Poland. After the war, in a message to his customers, De Leeuw commemorated his murdered employee as follows: “Mr. Keizer had known you for years and we know that many of them also had friendship relationships with him. His sparkling humor and great knowledge of people were the reason that he had good access to the clientele. ”
Koos and Rosetta had two daughters. Henriette was born in 1916 and Sara in 1921. They lived in Apeldoorn when the war broke out. Sara did not survive the war.
In the summer of 1942, Koos and other Zwolle Jewish men had to go to the De Vecht labor camp in Dalfsen to carry out mining work. Rosetta lived alone in this house for a while. In the night of 2 to 3 October 1942, the men from the labor camps were transferred to the Westerbork transit camp. They were told that they would be reunited there with their family. Rosetta was deported to Westerbork on 3 October via the Gymnasium Celeanum on the Veerallee. Their reunification lasted only a short time. On Monday October 19, Koos was transported to Auschwitz. Rosetta was deported to the same extermination camp a week later, on Monday, October 26.
