Lindenstraat 22 Haarlem
Abraham Benjamin "Bram" de Vries, born in 1882, was a furniture and wagon maker who was employed in 1903 at the workplace of the Railways in Haarlem. He was active in the trade union and the Workers Vereeniging voor Burning (AVVL), and thus opted for cremation, which deviated from the Jewish tradition. He married Jansje Duim, whom he had four children: Benjamin Abraham (Ben), Susanna (Suze), Cato (To), and Esther (Esje). After Jansje's death in 1930 he remarried in 1931 to Meintje Koe. The family lived for years in Lindenstraat 22, Schoten. In 1942, Bram and Meintje went into hiding in Enkhuizen, but were soon arrested and brought to the house of Bewaring in Amsterdam. Bram was then deported to Camp Amersfoort and later deported to Westerbork, after which he was transported to Auschwitz on December 13, 1942 and was murdered on December 15, 1942. Meintje Koe, born in 1888 in Amsterdam, had six brothers and sisters, some of whom also died during the Holocaust. After her arrest, Meintje was deported via Westerbork to Auschwitz, where she was murdered on October 19, 1942. Her stepdaughter Susanna's son -in -law Jacob Terstal and her cousin Leendert Suprece provided contact and support from Westerbork. Bram and Meintje's children survived the war, in which Ben was involved in the illegal Parool and Suze and Cato. Esther also went down when the Nazi's Jewish partners from mixed married Haarlemmers wanted to move to Amsterdam.
