The Van Straten-Andriesse family, originating from Rumpt, faced unimaginable hardships during World War II. Louis van Straten and Catharina Andriesse, both members of the Jewish community, likely sought refuge in hiding but were ultimately betrayed. Louis, who was a butcher and served as the chairman of the Jewish Community of Rumpt-Beesd since 1917, was deported to the Vught concentration camp on April 9, 1943. Records from the Jewish Council indicate that he was temporarily released from Vught. However, his reprieve was short-lived, as he was later detained in penal barrack 67 at Westerbork on November 9, 1943.
On November 16, 1943, Louis and Catharina were transported as prisoners to Auschwitz. Tragically, upon their arrival on November 19, they were executed.
