Louis van Amerongen lived at Anegang 24 in Haarlem. He was born in Leiden in 1898, where his parents ran a women’s hat and fur shop. After marrying Eva Schrijver in 1928, he opened a Haarlem branch with her on the corner of Warmoesstraat and Anegang. Their son David Louis, known as Jim, was born there in 1930. In 1933 the family moved the shop to Anegang 24. In February 1942 the German occupiers confiscated the business and appointed an administrator. The family was forced to leave in May 1942 and moved briefly to Lorentzplein. Louis then reported for a Jewish labour camp in Vledder. After its evacuation he was taken to Westerbork, deported to Auschwitz on 19 October 1942, used as a forced labourer and murdered there on 28 February 1943, aged 44. Eva and Jim survived the war.
