Grotestraat 156 Almelo
Manus Minco (also written as Menco and as Menko) was married to Sibille Hedeman from Ootmarsum. They had five children, among whom Carel Hyman and Maurits. Manus Minco founded a textile business on Denekamperstraat in Ootmarsum in 1885, where he lived with his family. It was a thriving business in women's and men's clothing. In 1896 the family moved to the Marktstraat, in the white building known as the Cremerhuis. In the period 1914-1917 the three oldest children left the parental home. Carel Hijman Minco became a tailor. In 1918 Manus Minco moved with his wife and the youngest two sons (including Maurits) to 156 Grotestraat in Almelo, where he established a textile business and tailoring. When Manus Minco left the business, his son Maurits succeeded him. Maurits believed that the Roman Catholic Hospital would provide safe accommodation for his father Manus. However, he was taken from the hospital and deported to Sobibor. Sophia Nathans was a daughter of Simon Nathans and Betje de Jong. She married Maurits Minco, a son of Manus Minco and Sebilla Hedeman, on 28 July 1920 in Groningen. Sophia and Maurits had six children, two of whom survived the Holocaust. Before going into hiding, they had been housed elsewhere than their parents and brothers and sister. Sophia, her husband Maurits, daughter Stella and her sons Sallo, Simon and Nico had gone into hiding near Ootmarsum but were caught on October 6, 1944 by betrayal. According to notes on her card from the archives of the Jewish Council, Sophia and her daughter Stella were taken to the airport near Enschede and from there deported to Nazi Germany, where they died somewhere in Central Europe during the Shoah. Her husband Maurits and her three sons Sallo, Simon and Nico were shot dead by a group of SD men on 7 October 1944 just outside the town. Sophia's parents had a total of eight children. They were Aaltje, Nathan, Salomon David, Klara, Eva, David Simon, Anna and Sophia herself. Only her brother Nathan died at a fairly young age, he died in 1913, aged 27. All of Sophia's other siblings were also killed in the Shoah.
