Rijnstraat 217
Amsterdam
After their marriage, Sophia and Jakob lived in Amsterdam, first in Laing's Nekstraat 10, then in Swammerdamstraat 5 and from 1930 in Rijnstraat 217 II. Sophia's husband Jakob was a bank clerk at the Amsterdam bank in the Sarphatistraat, where he climbed as a proceeding holder. The two daughters of Fie and Jacques also worked as an office clerk on the couch with their father after their school education.
It is known that Esther (Elly) and Lena were called up in July 1942 for the so -called "work expansion in Germany". They would be transported to Auschwitz on 27/28 July, but their parents, Fie and Jacques have joined their daughters, without being summoned. Possibly as a result, Elly and Lena are initially exempt from the transport of 27/28 July, but then the whole family was deported from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 10 August 1942.
Upon arrival in Auschwitz on August 13, 1942, the deportees, including Jakob, his wife Sophie and both daughters Esther and Lena, were selected to do forced labor, inside or outside the camp. However, when each of them and where exactly died is not known. That is why after the war, by order of the Ministry of Justice, the Municipality of Amsterdam Death certificates were drawn up in which it was established that Jakob Levitus, Sophia Levitus-Barend, Esther Levitus and Lena Levitus were killed in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942.
