The Meiboom family lived at Westerstraat A471 in Ruinen, where Mannes Meiboom ran a textile shop he had taken over from his father. Mannes and Anna Meiboom-de Horst had three children: Meta Anna, Mozes David and Elly, born in 1928. During the Nazi occupation, the family suffered increasing anti-Jewish measures. Although villagers offered them a hiding place, Mannes refused. Mozes David was sent to a labour camp and later murdered in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942. On 12 November 1942, Mannes, Anna, Meta and Elly were taken to Westerbork. Four days later they were deported to Auschwitz, where they were murdered on 19 November 1942.
