Oosterstraat 7
Warffum
Almost every Warffumer knows where Poere Broekema's house can be found. Poere was the nickname of Benjamin Heiman Broekema: butcher, writer, poet, musician, husband of Sara, father of Reina Rachelina and Rachelina Rosa. Benjamin lived with his family at number 7 in the Oosterstraat, number 5 of the house - formerly semidetached - was lived in by his mother Reina Broekema-van Dam.
Almost every Warffumer also knows that Pauline Broekema - no family, but the same surname - wrote a beautiful and moving book about the Jewish community in Warffum, with Benjamin as the main character: Benjamin, a silent death. The book is still for sale.
