Simon Polak, born in Amsterdam in 1890, was a coppersmith with the railways. He worked at the workshop of the Dutch Railways on Amsterdamsevaart in Haarlem, for some years in Utrecht, and from 1939 in Haarlem again. On 17 June 1914 he married Rebecca Bos, born in Amsterdam in 1892, in Amsterdam. They had two daughters: Dina in 1914 and Roosje in 1917.
Simon was sent to Westerbork on 27 August 1942 and deported on 31 August. It is not clear where to; he went missing. His date of death was later set at 31 May 1945, in Central Europe. He was 54. His name is on the memorial plaques of the Dutch Railways in Haarlem and Utrecht. Rebecca lived with relatives in Amsterdam for some time. She was deported from Westerbork on 23 January 1943, spent her 51st birthday on the train and was murdered in Auschwitz on 26 January 1943. Their daughter Dina survived the war in hiding with her family. Their daughter Roosje and her husband Eliazar Levisson were deported and murdered at the end of 1943.
