Jakob Schwalb was a German Roman Catholic priest, born on 4 August 1872 in Hettenleidelheim. He was ordained in Speyer Cathedral in 1897 and served in several parishes before becoming pastor of Göllheim in 1912. There he renewed parish life, founded charitable and religious initiatives, and became known for his kindness and support for the community. Schwalb openly opposed National Socialism before and after 1933. On 23 June 1933, a Nazi-influenced mob attacked his rectory with stones, gunfire and explosives. He was arrested “for his own protection,” imprisoned in Kirchheimbolanden, and reportedly mistreated. Released after three days, he was physically and mentally broken, never returned to Göllheim, and later served briefly in Dahn. He died in Mannheim on 25 April 1934 from the consequences of persecution.
