The Löb family lived at Luitpoldstraße 22 in Mutterstadt. Helene Löb, born in 1880, married merchant Hermann Löb in 1905; they had three daughters: Johanna, Lilli and Hilda. Hermann traded flour, grain and animal feed, using a warehouse across the street. All three daughters escaped Nazi persecution: Johanna fled to France and later reached the United States with her husband Moritz and daughter Evelyn; Lilli emigrated to the USA with her non-Jewish husband Martin Killmann; Hilda followed in 1940. During the November pogrom, the family home was attacked and destroyed by a group of men after the synagogue burned. Hermann and Helene were forced to give up their houses. Hermann died in Mutterstadt in 1939. Helene was deported to Gurs in October 1940, but obtained a U.S. visa and escaped via Lisbon in 1941. She lived with Lilli in New York until her death in 1963.
