Rebecca Slap-Reens and Abraham Reens came from an Orthodox Jewish family connected to a small synagogue near the Overtoom in Amsterdam. Rebecca had been widowed in 1910 after the death of Israël Slap. During the Shoah, she also lost her son Eliazer, her daughter Sara and several grandchildren; two grandsons survived in Belgium. In 1929 she moved in with her brother Abraham Reens and his wife Rebecca Reens-Rabbie at Lomanstraat 66. Abraham was a furniture dealer and died in 1938. Rebecca Slap-Reens and Rebecca Reens-Rabbie were registered in Westerbork on 8 April 1943, deported to Sobibor on 13 April and murdered there on 16 April. Abraham’s daughters Vrouwkje, Heintje and Branca were also deported and murdered in 1943. Vrouwkje worked as a saleswoman, Heintje as a teacher at the Jewish Palache School, and Branca as a bookkeeper.
