Henri Schaap established himself in 1924 as a dentist at Nieuwe Herengracht 109 in Amsterdam. In 1927 he married Martha Simons, and they moved to Plantage Middenlaan 9, where he ran his practice from home. After their marriage, both used the name Schaap-Simons. Henri actively promoted oral hygiene, even giving radio talks at a time when toothbrushing was not yet common.
In 1930 their daughter Rosa Johanna (called Renée) was born. Shortly before the war, Jetjen Jacob began working for the family as a maid but was deported in 1942. During the occupation, Henri lost non-Jewish patients and was eventually deported to Camp Vught in January 1943; Martha and Renée followed in April. On June 7, 1943, the family was transported via Westerbork to Sobibor, where they were murdered on June 11, 1943.
