At Floraplein 4 in Haarlem, two Jewish women persecuted under the Nazis are commemorated with Stolpersteine: Rachel Nanette Cats-Mendes da Costa and Anna Beolina Polak-van Oss.
Rachel Nanette Cats-Mendes da Costa was born in Amsterdam on 20 February 1882. After her husband Elizar Cats died in 1937, she continued living at Floraplein 4. In October 1942 she was hospitalized and sought exemptions from deportation due to her weak health. On 2 April 1944 she was deported from Westerbork and later transported to Auschwitz, where she was murdered in July 1944 at age 62.
Anna Beolina Polak-van Oss was born on 5 November 1878 in Vierlingsbeek (North Brabant). She and her husband ran a clothing and textile business before moving to Haarlem around 1933 to be near family. Registered at Floraplein 4 from late 1941, she was deported from Westerbork on 19 May 1944 and murdered in Auschwitz on 22 May 1944 at age 65.
