What the app does
The app shows the Stolpersteine in our database on a map, with the names of the people they remember and, where we have them, a photo and a story. The Home tab shows people who were born on this day and a few stones in the spotlight.
The map and the search
Open the Map tab. A marker with a number stands for several addresses close together: zoom in to see them apart. Tap a marker to see the address and the names, then tap that card to open the page of the address.
Type a name, a street or a city in the search field at the top. The search starts at three letters. The round button under the search field moves the map to where you are.
The page of an address
The page of an address shows the photos, the people remembered there and the story of the address. Tap a person to see the dates and places of birth and death, and links to more information. A story that was not written in your language is translated automatically, and such a translation may contain errors. The app can also read the story out. From this page you can share the address, or tell us by e-mail that a stone is damaged or missing.
A walking route
On the page of an address, choose “Walking route from here”. Choose how long you want to walk and whether the walk comes back to the start, then choose “Make the route”. The app picks addresses with stones within reach and draws the route on the map. You can share the route with someone else.
“Start the walk” takes you from stop to stop. The map shows the route and your own position. The app shows how far it is to the next stop, and at each address the names and the story. Choose “Finish the walk” to end it.
Taking a photo of a stone
Is the photo of a stone missing or out of date? On the page of the address, choose “Take a photo of this stone”, place the stone in the frame and take the photo. The app asks for permission to use the camera the first time. The photo is sent to Stichting 18 September, and we look at it before it is shown in the app and on the website.
Privacy
The app has no accounts and does not ask for your name or e-mail address. If you allow it, the app uses your position to show where you are on the map and to guide you along a walking route. It uses the camera only when you take a photo of a stone. The app keeps statistics of how it is used, without your name. Our privacy statement says what Stichting 18 September does with personal data.
Contact
Do you know more about a person, or is something in the app not right? Write to [email protected]. “Contact” in the settings also leads to our pages on Facebook and Instagram.
